Lighting has the ability to completely change the feel of a room. The right fixture can make a kitchen feel welcoming, a living space feel comfortable or a bathroom feel warm.
Types of lighting:
- Ambient Lighting: This is what lights the entire room. It is the foundation of all the other layers of light that you add to make a room function well. Generally, ambient light is achieved through chandeliers, ceiling and wall-mount fixtures, track, or recessed lighting.
- Task Lighting: Task lighting is a specific light installed to illuminate a particular space where daily activities occur. Good examples of task lighting are a light over the stove to illuminate the cooking area or vanity lights over the bathroom sink. Recessed lighting, pendant lamps, or specialty fixtures are often used in these areas.
- Accent Lighting: These fixtures are used to highlight something specific in the room such as a painting or architecture. While they are generally three times brighter than the ambient lighting of the room, the fixture should be never be obvious. Recessed lighting is often used for accent lighting.
